In the age of instant gratification, employee loyalty is mostly lost and we rarely see it last long. All too often employees are tempted to take a new position based on hearsay and potential, not real numbers. So we say goodbye to co-worker friendships built on staying out way too late drinking after work and we move on. What ever happened to the idea of working your way up or just staying because it’s a great place to work? At Ellis Island we are fortunate to have many exceptions and Manny Gonzalez is one of them.
Today marks the 35th anniversary for Manny Gonzalez, a bartender who has worked the same shift as far as he can remember. Thirty five years at the same job is a long time no matter where you work or what you do. The Ellis’ saw something special in Manny one day back in 1977 and wanted him to be a part of their family. Ellis Island is family to this day and you see it in everything we do. This is a great example of an employee who takes pride in where he works and the job he performs. He is a landmark just as much as the building he tends bar in. Manny says it’s just another day but it’s more than that to the Ellis family, it’s a milestone. We should all be as dedicated to our place of employment and our jobs as Manny is. Thank you from the entire Ellis Island family.
